A Critical Choice On May 5th

Who Do You Want To Run Suffolk Coastal District Council

For the last four years Suffolk Coastal District Council has been run by the Conservatives. For only around 10% of your Council Tax we deliver a wide range of services affecting our quality of life :-

  • collecting household waste,
  • local planning
  • enabling affordable housing
  • collecting litter and sweeping the streets
  • coast protection
  • and many others

This year there will be no increase in what you pay to Suffolk Coastal. We achieved that by cutting costs by £2 million with the unanimous support of Liberal Democrats and Labour. Money will go on being tight. Conservatives know how to manage it.

A Fine Labour Mess

We are all painfully learning just how much damage Labour did to the country's finances ("There's no money left") Don't give them a chance to start again with Suffolk Coastal.

The Last Four Years - We Have :-

  • made savings in our budget averaging over £1.8M each year and remained free of debt
  • kept Council Tax rises below the rate of inflation with no increase this year
  • maintained key front-line services
  • streamlined our management structure in partnership with Waveney Council, saving £425K
  • built new coast defences at Bawdsey, Thorpeness and Felixstowe
  • achieved a 60% recycling rate with the 3-bin system now across the district, saving £2M landfill tax
  • enabled provision of 270 Affordable Homes with 682 more approved
  • attracted over £26M of external investment for projects we have promoted

The Next Four Years - We Will :-

  • support the drive for Fast Broadband for both homes and businesses across the district
  • keep Council Tax as low as possible, by continuing to drive down costs
  • maintain the services people rely on
  • vigorously defend our estuaries and coast - projects ready at Thorpeness and Felixstowe
  • work for a Greener Suffolk by careful use of natural resources & care of our environment
  • plan for the future, balancing the need for homes and jobs with protection of our unique local environment
  • champion affordable homes for local people who need them
  • work with communities to help them realise their goals

Vote No To Av

Alternative Voting (AV) would virtually guarantee permanent Liberal Democrat led coalitions in local and national government. That is why they made it a condition of supporting the coalition government. Do not let them get away with it !! Read More [...]
