In The Last Four Years - We Have :-

Protected the coast at Felixstowe, Bawdsey and Dunwich

With over 56 miles of coastline, Suffolk Coastal is particularly at risk from erosion and flooding.

Where serious erosion has either threatened or occurred, we have moved swiftly to protect homes and property.

In partnership with parish councils, local landowners and the Environment Agency, we have undertaken urgent work to provide emergency sea defences to help protect Bawdsey’s East Lane.

A similar partnership is carrying out an experimental beach stabilisation project to reduce the severe cliff failures at Dunwich.

Prompt action in Felixstowe has led to emergency protection works being carried out to reinforce the sea wall and lessen the risk of flooding.

Suffolk Coastal has made significant capital contributions to all these schemes but we have also been successful in recouping much of the cost from central government.

In The Next Four Years - We Will :-

Continue the high priority protection of our coast and estuarties

We shall continue to act where we can to protect our coast and estuaries. We do not accept that the solution lies in ‘managed retreat’.

However, our financial resources are limited and ultimately the responsibility lies with central government. We shall continue to press the case for Suffolk Coastal with government ministers.
