Protecting Coast And Estuary

Protecting our coast and estuaries continues to be a top priority for Suffolk Coastal. Following some intense discussions we have been successful in persuading Government and the Environment Agency to continue with major funding for the £10 million Felixstowe Defences project and the £420 thousand Thorpeness Community Partnership project.

Suffolk Coastal facilitated the £3.2 million Bawdsey Coast Protection scheme in 2008 funded entirely by an enabling housing scheme. This initiative protected many acres of agricultural land and countryside from flooding and is recognised by Government and the Environment Agency as a very successful and innovative initiative.
