Waste Recycling

We have now completed the roll-out of our 3-bin waste collection and recycling service to all 57,866 households in the district. This has enabled us to move from a recycling/composting rate of 40% in 2007 to a rate of over 60% during 2010.

This has made a made a major contribution to our Greener Suffolk goals with significant quantities of waste being diverted from landfill. Landfill can be unsightly, is harmful to the environment and expensive. Our recycling achievement has saved taxpayers £2 million in Landfill Tax a year.

Our waste collection and recycling service is carried out for us by Suffolk Coastal Services Ltd. Their success in winning outside contract work and in operating ever more efficiently has been a key factor in helping us achieve significant savings of over the last four years.
